Happy together

Elisabeth and I know a lot of happy couples. Some of them have stayed together even longer than us. We’ve been married more than 30 years, and our marriage is still getting better. In this segment we want to share with you some of the things happy couples have in common.

When a relationship works, it’s like heaven on earth. If it doesn’t work, it can be just the opposite. Why do some succeed and others don’t? How can couples live happily together all their lives? Here are some of the things happy couples have in common:

• - They have decided to stay together
• - They agree on where they’re going in life
• - They invest in the relationship
• - They follow eternal principles
• - They are good friends and have fun together
• - They respect each other
• - They talk openly with each other about everything
• - They have good and exciting sex
• - They don’t let anything destroy the relationship
• - They have good relations with other people

Before I marry a couple we usually have three evenings of teaching and conversation with the couple. Since early in our relationship Elisabeth and I have been involved in counseling couples in all kinds of life situations. We’ve still got much to learn ourselves, but we would like to share what we’ve learned so far, both from our own and other peoples’ experiences and from God’s book.
