Nobody's perfect. Really?
We've heard it a million times before: "Nobody's perfect". But it seems God does not agree. This is our answer to a question we have recieved: "Does God see Christians as being perfect?"
God does see Christians as being perfect. We are holy and faultless before God because of Jesus, not because we've made it on our own. At the same time, God sees the things in our lives that need changing. It's an interesting question you ask. The way we see ourselves, is of the utmost importance for how we live our lives and what we get out of life. But the way God sees us is even more important! God wants us to see ourselves the same way He does. God sees each individual as highly valuable and cares about each one of us. "Look at the birds of the air!" Jesus said. "They do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" When God created the world, he created human beings as the icing on the cake - the very best bit. "Why do you bother with us? Why take a second look our way?" David asks in Psalm 6. The answer follows: "Yet we've so narrowly missed being Gods, bright with Eden's dawn light.." etc. Psalm 139 says that God formed us in the womb and that He saw each one of while we were still only foetuses! We are all wanted by God. We're worth a lot in God's eyes! We are loved by God and are the apple of His eye. We are so valuable to Jesus that he was willing to suffer and die for us. I believe that even if you'd been the only person on Earth, Jesus would have given his life for you. At the same time, the Bible shows us that because people chose not to listen to God, but to go their own way, sin came in and separated us from God. Even if we've only ever sinned once, we are guilty before God. We have all sinned, the Bible says, and fall short of the glory of God. We need salvation. We can't save ourselves. We can't ever become good enough for God on our own. We are made righteous without deserving it, by the grace of God, when we accept Jesus as our Saviour and Lord. When we accept what Jesus has done for us, we stand before God, complete and free of sin in His eyes. So in a way, I can answer yes to your question; God sees Christians as being perfect. We stand before him holy and faultless because of Jesus, not because we've made it on our own. At the same time, God sees the things in our lives that need changing, and when we live all out for him, he will give us the power we need to be transformed. God loves us just the way we are, but he loves us too much to let us go on being just the way we are! |
